The Maids of Athena Grand Lodge is proud to announce the creation of the Becky Angelos Demeris Scholarship, named in honor of the first Grand President of our order, Becky Angelos Demeris.  Sister Becky was elected Grand President in 1954 and served until 1956.  As a member of the first Grand Lodge, she and her fellow lodge members helped to set the standards for our Sisterhood and are responsible for many of the traditions we still practice to this day.

Upon the completion of her Grand Presidency, Sister Becky continued to serve the Maids of Athena on the Grand Lodge in the positions of Grand Secretary and Grand Governor.  Throughout her life, Sister Becky was a staunch supporter of the Maids of Athena.  She joined the Daughters of Penelope and was elected to the position of Grand President in 1988, becoming the first MOA PGP to serve as Grand President of both Orders.

Sister Becky remained an active member of the AHEPA Family in Houston, Texas until she passed away earlier this year, on January 21, 2024.  She was a familiar face at the AHEPA Family Supreme Convention and could often be seen participating in the installation ceremonies for both the Maids of Athena and Daughters of Penelope, something that has made sure that many generations of Maids of Athena will never forget her and the contributions she has made to our Sisterhood.

Sister Becky's constant dedication to our mission to strive to perpetuate the ideals of Athena as well as promote the principles of our order will be remembered for years to come.  We encourage any member of the Maids of Athena, past or present, who has been influenced by Sister Becky, to consider donating to help fund this scholarship in her name.
